We are thrilled to announce that our 2019 ADF Diversifying Boards event, in partnership with Arts Council England at Birmingham Repertory Theatre.
‘ADF Diversifying Theatre Boards – Midlands’ Tuesday 5 March 2019, Birmingham Repertory Theatre.
Our ADF Diversifying Boards event at Birmingham Repertory Theatre marked the third event carried out over three consecutive years in the UK. We are proud to continue our partnership with Arts Council England and host our first Midland event at the reputable Birmingham Repertory Theatre.
At the time that we delivered this event to address the lack of culturally diverse representation at board level in the Midlands, it had been identified in the Arts Council Diversity report as an area of need in the Midlands. Annual survey data for 2015/16 and 2016/17 demonstrated that no NPO theatre in the north of England had ethnically diverse Artistic Directors, Chief Executives or Chairs.
This full day programme was designed and facilitated by Founder and Artistic Director at ADF, Simeilia Hodge-Dallaway. The event is divided into a two-part event, in the morning our ADF members (consisting of over 300 artists and leaders from culturally diverse backgrounds) are invited to attend a series of workshops delivered by our guest facilitators, about governance models and responsibilities. They were joined in the afternoon by senior executives and trustees of National Portfolio Organisations, to work on a collaborative action-based approach to diversifying theatre NPO boards in the area.
This event included provocations and examples of good practice from leaders in the arts and cultural, and corporate sectors.
The day concluded with speed networking, and a practical ideas session to produce action plans.
Guest Speakers included:
- Javaad Alipoor, Northern Lines, Artistic Director and ADF Trustee
