Artistic Directors Lab is a half-day interactive workshop for creatives to gain a deeper understanding of the responsibilities of an Artistic Director beyond programming.
The session is led by an Artistic Director (or Creative Director) of arts organisations.
Members are divided into 3 groups and each group is presented with a different task created by the guest Artistic Director. The groups have time to develop an idea before presenting it and receiving constructive feedback.

Financial support: 2 full bursaries are available for all members (including Standard members) that receive benefits or have received the Self Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) due to Covid-19. What will be covered?
- You will be presented with a task such as ideas to resolve a problem, or developing a new project or creating a strategy for a specific endeavor. You will work in a small group and together you will present your ideas.
What will you need?
- A device to access Zoom. A desktop will be required for the sake of breakout room activities.
- A notepad and pen or a writing device.

Who is the workshop suited to?
Anyone over the age of 18 years interested in becoming an Artistic Director.
Is the session interactive?
Yes. You will be required to engage with the other participants to develop ideas.
Will the session have live captioning?
Yes, we can provide live captioning if requested when you book, providing you book at least 5 working days in advance.

ADF Innovators gives up to 10 ADF members the time, space and support to develop a project idea that aligns with the ADF mission – to improve the representation of people of colour in theatre leadership positions. Up to 10 practitioners will develop their project proposal and their entrepreneurial skills over a two-week online intensive programme, providing all with a viable proposal and strategy for realisation. One member will launch it at ADF.
